Visit to Yorkshire

Hi,

I've recently been to Yorkshire to meet some relatives and do some digging around my family history.

Good news in that I think I have found William Watsons police record. I've just sent off for a copy of the death certificate from the date of death listed on the record and if the two correlate, that should be another confirmation.

Additionally, I have found information regarding Joseph Dean and Beatrice Boldy through what appears to be a collection of family graves in the Cowick Church site.

I have a little bit of additional work to complete to confirm these, but the information looks good.

I have also seen the Land Tax Record for Castleford and Kellington. There is indeed a John Dean being registered as the occupier for a property and that appears to be the only Dean, besides another Reverand Dean. Im not sure on the quality of these records, as the information for Kellington didn't produce any family names that we are familiar with - such as Backhouse, Dean, Heron or even Hirst - the diary writer.

Mary Ann Heron, one of two supposed maiden aunts who looked after Joseph Dean for some unknown reason, her father appears to be a Thomas Heron. He was the reverand at St Giles in Pontefract between 1774 and 1778.

I hope to add a little bit of that families history into this site in due course.

Seen the Parish Register

Hi,

I've seen the Parish Register for Castleford. Unfortunately the information contained is very minimal, and the IGI provides no less and no more information.

Very frustrating.

I realise I've probably run the end of the road with my Dean line, but I still refuse to give up, and will do everything I can to find that little bit of information.

I've looked through some Death Duty Registers of a John Dean of Bradford, and found references to a Sarah Rhodes, and an Elizabeth Sugden (widow).

Possibly a further avenue of investigation there.
